23/01/2012 - Ofcom prepare for London 2012 Olympic wireless surge
The 2012 Olympics in London will see around 26,000 media members arrive along with spectators, athletes and officials. This will place a huge burden on the wireless infrastructure and available spectrum which Ofcom needs to address.
To meet the extra demands Ofcom has developed a plan to secure additional capacity. This includes borrowing spectrum on a short-term basis, ensuring that civil spectrum is used efficiently by making unused frequencies available, making use of spectrum freed up by the digital switchover and using spectrum that is available without the need for a licence.

04/01/2012 - Ofcom stops ARCs
As from 31st December 2011 Ofcom has stopped telecoms companies from using ARCs - Automatically Renewable Contracts. This means that once your current contract is coming to an end you will be able to shop around for better deals in your own time without having to cancel within a set timeframe in order to avoid a further contract.
ARCs have been used by many other telecoms companies to tie customers in to uncompetitive rates and deals. The terms of leaving the ARC and moving to an alternative supplier are often onerous and hidden in the small print.
