PAC system to be speeded up13th July 2010
OFCOM have ordered the mobile phone networks to speed up the PAC system. Currently when you wish to transfer a mobile number between networks you will need a PAC (Porting Authorisation Code) number which is supposed to take a maximum of 2 days.

From April 2011 this system should be "same day" with codes issued immediately over the phone or within two hours by text message, making it easier for consumers to transfer their numbers.

EU caps on roaming charges now in force1st July 2010
From today calls made in the EU will be charged at a maximum of 32p per minute, 3p lower than before. Mobile phone operators will also have to place a €50 cap on all data roaming charges to stop customers running up excessive bills.

Customers will also be warned before they reach the cap and the connection will be cut off if the cap is reached. The cap can be lifted at the customers request.
