What is a MAC code?

Questions about business mobiles, broadband or any of our other services. We will post the answers on our FAQ pages.
Most people will be familiar with PAC codes (Porting Authorisation Codes) which allow you to retain your existing mobile number when transferring between networks.

The broadband equivalent is a MAC code (Migration Access Code). This allows you to transfer your existing broadband connection between suppliers without having to change your line and with no downtime.

To obtain your MAC code you need to telephone your existing broadband provider. If you are still in contract you may have to pay a cancellation fee to them for the remainder of your contract.

OFCOM rules mean that your provider must supply you with a MAC code within five working days and it must be free of charge (applies to home consumers and small businesses with less than 10 employees).

The MAC code needs to be given to your new provider before its expiry.
