Human Validation:
How would you cope if your mobile phone was lost or stolen? Mobiles are now such an integral part of modern life that there is almost certainly going to be something on there which may be irreplacable or, at the very least, difficult or time-consuming to restore.

Photos, music, video and your contact list can all be lost as can important emails. Do you have a policy for backing up your mobile phone data?

The data can be downloaded onto your computer from most handsets or you could use an online backup service such as Microsoft's My Phone, available for users of Windows Mobile devices.

This will enable you to restore data in the event of a lost mobile or make it easier for you when moving to a new handset.

As well as data loss there is the possibility of losing money too. You should treat your phone as if it were a credit card in the event of theft and get it turned off by your network immediately to stop anyone using it and running up large bills which you are responsible for.

If you are on a contract you will still be liable for the monthly line rental up until the end of your contract, even though you don't have a phone.

Buying a replacement phone is not likely to be cheap either. The subsidies which the network gives you when taking out your phone will not be available and the full retail price of the phone will be due.

It is possible to register your mobile phones with Immobilise, the UK National Property Register, to assist in recovering your property. This service is free of charge.
