Internet Mobile Phones
More and more people are accessing the internet from their mobile phones. It can be very handy, particularly for business users, to have access to websites and email 24/7 wherever you are.
But are you getting the most from your mobile internet experience? Could you be working smarter with different handsets more geared to your particular online usage?
With many people now contracted on deals with inclusive minutes and texts, mobile phone networks see data as a potential way of generating more income. This means that you are unlikely to have data included in your tariff automatically and the per MB charges are likely to be steep.
Data can usually be included at an extra cost. Make sure you have a data bolt-on added to your account before you start browsing and emailing.
If you are going abroad with your phone make sure you know the cost of data calls before you go. Whilst roaming charges for voice and sms have come down considerably in the last couple of years data costs are still eye-wateringly high.
When choosing a mobile phone handset for accessing the internet there are some obvious things to consider.
- Screen size
Standard mobile phones of old have screens around 2 inches. This makes it incredibly difficult to view websites unless they have been specifically adapted for mobile phone usage.
Modern touchscreen phones have expanded all the way to 4 inches now giving you a much better browsing experience.
- Mode of input
A standard mobile phone keyboard does not make it easy to enter URLs. A better option is a full QWERTY keyboard or, as a compromise, a half QWERTY keyboard.
- Browser
Does your phone come with a standard browser, similar to the ones you use with your desktop computer, or is it the manufacturers own version which may not offer the same quality of display.
- Download speed
You will need a 3G handset to get the broadband download speeds that you are used to.
