How much mobile data do you need?
More and more business mobile users are accessing email and internet via their mobile phone handsets. This is classified as data usage by the networks.A regular business mobile contract does not usually include data as standard (although there are some that do) and the charges per MB can be expensive. So how much data allowance do you need? Think about how often you are going to be accessing these data services and see which of these groups you fall into.
- Light Users
Most of your data use is via your computer with the mobile phone only used for data in exceptional circumstances. Occasionally checking emails, browsing the internet every few days. No downloading of music or video.
- Heavy Users
You are using your mobile phone as a replacement for your computer whilst out and about, downloading all of your emails, including bulky attachments, getting all of your news and info browsing the internet several times daily.
Data bolt-ons are inexpensive and for a few pounds you are likely to be getting around 500MB. This is more than enough for light users and for heavy users could be enough, although if you find you are exceeding this amount bolt-ons of 5GB are available.
For 500MB of data you could send and receive each day:
- 250 emails
- 35 Word documents
- 25 PowerPoint, Excel or Acrobat attachments
Obviously these figures are very approximate as the size of emails will vary and it may be that in your business all of your attachments and emails are exceptionally large, in which case you need to reduce these figures quoted.
